About the Key Messages

Local context, Design, and Integration are the key messages for the Integrated Guidelines for sustainable neighbourhood design and planning; they overlap and reinforce each other to form the sustainable neighbourhood structure. They do not work in isolation.

The key messages should be implemented in an organised but open-ended way, and must be taken into consideration all throughout the process of building sustainable neighbourhoods. Having multi-phase design process ensures a planned return to the core goals of the design and plan.

They go hand in hand with the six Strategies that serve as pathways to design sustainable neighbourhoods. For each of which a list of concrete actions is provided.
